The Old Las Palmas And Vista Las Palmas Neighborhoods In Palm Springs, CA

The Las Palmas Neighborhoods In Palm Springs, CA

As many know, Palm Springs, CA has been home to the stars for decades but Old Las Palmas and Vista Las Palmas are two standout communities when it comes to that notoriety.  Located west of Palm Canyon Drive in central Palm Springs, it has some of the most beautiful estates accentuated by great views and mature landscaping.

You want names?  In the 1950’s celebrities from Los Angeles used Vista Las Palmas as their desert retreat from busy work schedules

Celebrities who once lived and played in Vista Las Palmas include :

Marilyn Monroe, Dean Martin, Peter Lawford, Colonel Tom Parker, Debbie Reynolds, Joan Collins, George Hamilton, Kirk Douglas, Dinah Shore, John Phillips of the Mama’s and Papa’s, and Trini Lopez to name a few.

Old Las Palmas celebs would include:

Edgar Bergen, Liberace, Sidney Sheldon, George Hamilton, Mary Martin, Joseph Barbera, Donna Reed, Harold Mirisch, Alan Ladd, William Powell, Rona Barrett, Rudy Vallee, Harold Robbins, George Randolph Hearst, Sidney Korshak, Kirk Douglas, Kitty Carlisle, Jack Warner, Leo Spitz, Lily Tomlin and many others.

Sound like a who’s who, right?  Well then let’s not forget the Elvis Presley honeymoon house where he and Priscilla enjoyed there early married life together.

Today that home is still alive and well and its a vacation rental today that is considered one of the finest examples of mid-century architecture.

Which brings up another great point.  Many of the homes in the area are of the classic Mid-Century design that has been so popular again for the past decade.  Designed by Palmer, Kriesel and Alexander, they are all in a well kept-preserved state and historically accurate.  In fact the Robert Alexander that he built with his wife Helene, was the home they shared when they moved from Los Angeles to Palm Springs in 1957. Their special custom home at 1350 Ladera Ave was referred to as “The House of Tomorrow” and was featured in an eight-page spread in Look Magazine’s September 1962 issue.

A trip to Palm Springs is always fun if you take some time to enjoy the distinctive architecture and re-live the past that was one the playground to the Hollywood set.
